Sheep Minerals, Licks, Supplements & Mineral Blocks

Best Mineral Block for Sheep
If you own a flock of sheep, it's a good idea to research supplements, salt licks, and minerals to find the best mineral block for sheep. Minerals are essential to the life of any animal, and sheep require certain minerals to effectively raise lambs, produce milk, wool, and grow rapidly for proper weight gain and to achieve their genetic potential.

Your sheep require minerals, including salt, on a daily basis to thrive, and if you fail to supply adequate amounts of minerals in their diet, you may experience below-average fertility, weakened lambs at birth (leading to a poor survival rate), and a depressed immune-response to sheep diseases.

In this article we break down the most popular types of mineral supplements for sheep, including sheep mineral licks, loose minerals, sheep protein tubs, and mineral blocks for sheep. We also provide links to some online retailers where you can buy sheep minerals.

Best Ram Marking Harness Options for Sheep

Ram Marking Harness
Using a ram marking harness, also referred to as a sheep breeding harness, is an excellent way to identify how efficiently your ram is breeding your ewes. A ram harness fits snugly around the chest and shoulders of a ram, and has a slot for a replaceable marking crayon. When your ram mounts and breeds your ewes there will be a clear mark left above their hips.

For many years shepherds have been using a sheep harness to help determine the lambing due date by using a sheep gestation calculator or table. A breeding harness can also help shepherds identify fertility problems with their rams or ewes if their flock is consistently marked and re-marked by their ram.
